The medal winning Sharks are on track for Tokyo

The men’s national water polo team, the “Sharks”,  have won Silver at the FINA World Cup in Berlin. Julian King on Nights caught up with water polo “Driver” Blake Edwards.

Asked if the team was on track for the World Championships next year and Tokyo in 2020, Blake replied “Absolutely, it was a target of ours to finish in the top 4 and anything above that was a bonus, so to get into the gold medal game was huge”.

The Sharks are one of the few nations in the top rung of the sport that’s an amateur side, but Blake and the team take the tough challenge with a positive view. He explained “Our intent is that we play for the pride and the love of the sport and it’s something we use to our advantage”.
