The most damning statistic from Essendon’s loss to Carlton

TONY, JIMMY, AND TONY

Tony Shaw has slammed Essendon’s lack of tackle pressure.

The Bombers slumped to a fourth straight loss against Carlton on Saturday, giving their arch-rivals their first win of the season in the process.

Tellingly, six Bombers – including senior players Dyson Heppell, Brendon Goddard, Michael Hurley, and Jake Stringer – had just four tackles between them.

It comes just one week after five Bombers did not lay a tackle against Hawthorn the week before.

Shawry told Macquarie Sports Radio Breakfast good teams need to apply pressure.

“There was an excuse for the last two years,” Shawry said.

“The year before they had the players missing.

“(Then) you get the players back and it’ll take them a year to get going.

“What’s the excuse this year?”
