“They’re testing the waters for another franchise” Lehmann on Big Bash

Former Australian cricket coach and Macquarie Sports Radio commentator Darren Lehmann has told Mornings with David Morrow and Tiffany Cherry that a Big Bash expansion could be on the cards, “Don’t be surprised if they’re testing the waters with another franchise.”

This summer, there will be 56 regular season matches, up from 40 last season, meaning each of the eight teams will play each other twice in addition to the two semi-finals and the final.

Lehmann said Cricket Australia is possibly trying to extend the number of teams in the BBL competition and bring the number of games back down, “They want to see how it would look in February, because finals are normally around the end of the school holidays and that’s perfect timing, so it will be very interesting.”
