Tottenham hand Chelsea its first defeat of the EPL season

Macquarie Sports Radio

Tottenham has handed Chelsea its first defeat of the EPL season.

Spurs scored twice (Dele Alli, Harry Kane) in the opening 16 minutes of the heavyweight clash at Wembley, and Chelsea never looked like getting back into the match.

Son Heung-Min sealed the points shortly before the hour mark before Olivier Giroud scored a consolation goal for Chelsea five minutes from time.

Chelsea had started the season with eight wins and four draws from its opening 12 matches.

The Blues remain in the top four, four points ahead of Arsenal, who play Bournemouth tonight.

Manchester United is now seven points adrift of the Champions League placings after a scoreless draw with Crystal Palace at home.

TalkSport commentator Rhys Weston told Macquarie Sports Radio it’s clear United are no longer the force they once were.

“Results like today just highlight that fact,” he said.
