‘We weren’t worried about Carlton swooping, Dylan always wanted to play for us.’ – Bombers list boss excited about new recruit

Macquarie Sports Radio

Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro says he never had any worries that Carlton were going swoop on Dylan Shiel, saying he knew the former Giant only wanted to play for the Bombers.

“I wasn’t really worried, to be honest, he said to us he wanted to only play for us, and Wayne Campbell even came to me and said they only were going to deal with us, so we were confident we would get it done.”

Dodoro told Macquarie Sports Radio Melbourne breakfast that GWS held firm and valued Dylan Shiel highly, and as such, Essendon had to pay the high price of two first round draft picks in order to get Shiel there.

“Negotiations were normal, but GWS valued him highly, they knew what they wanted, and they probably got what they wanted, we both left happy.”

The Essendon list boss was thrilled to get Shiel in the door, and says he ‘appreciated’ how much money Dylan had sacrificed to play at Essendon in front of an adoring fanbase.

The Bombers were able to get a future second round draft pick back in return, and won’t enter this years draft until pick 35, but Dodoro believes that the Bombers can trade up in the coming weeks before the draft.

“We will sit down and look at how the picks look at the moment, and we will see if we can trade up.”
