Why Jon Ralph thinks all AFL coaches should follow “inspired” Buckley’s lead

Mark Allen & David Schwarz

Nathan Buckley has taken three months off — and Jon Ralph is on board.

The Herald Sun journo told Macquarie Sports Radio the head coach doesn’t need to get involved in early pre-season training.

“I think it’s absolutely inspired,” Ralph said.

“This has to be the way of the future.

“I can’t see why all 18 coaches wouldn’t be wanting to do the same thing.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of coaches and clubs, and they’re not doing a lot of game simulation, match practice or tactical stuff.

“All of that’s for January.”

Ralph also said the time might be right for Hawthorn to appoint co-captains.
