The FFA has culled two bids seeking an A League licence leaving six groups seeking the right to become new A League clubs.
Two clubs are likely to be included in a bigger competition with the FFA considering three bids from Melbourne, Canberra and two from Sydney.
Former New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma is heading up the Southern Expansion bid which includes the St George region, Sutherland and Wollongong.
