Why what’s best for Darcy Moore might not be what’s best for Collingwood

Jimmy Bartel says Darcy Moore has the potential to be a “star” playing in the backline.

Problem is, he and Scott Lucas think Collingwood need him to become a gun forward.

Speculation is mounting about Moore’s future following reports of a contract stalemate between club and player.

The Pies have experimented with Moore down back this season after initially recruiting him to play forward.

Bartel said on Macquarie Sports Radio he liked Moore playing in defence in the mould of teammate Jeremy Howe or West Coast’s Jeremy McGovern.

“I like him as a key back,” Bartel said.

“I think he could be a star.”

Lucas agreed.

“I think moving Moore to centre-half-back was more about helping him, than necessarily Collingwood initially,” he said.

“But in the end, if he becomes a very good centre-half-back, it helps Collingwood.
